Success Story - At Work
Industry Images (Calgary)
The printing industry is not always known for being environmentally friendly. Producing paper waste is part of the business. But a young, environmentally-savvy company in Calgary wanted to change that image.
Eighteen months ago, Industry Images began a green program in eight locations across Canada. Today, their company has an environmental culture that includes planting trees with Scouts Canada.
“For every tree worth of paper we use, we plant two trees with Scouts Canada,” said Joel Graham of Industry Images.
Once a year, their Calgary employees partner with a Scout troops to plant seedlings. Graham wants his company to be a leader in environmentalism.
“If we don’t take care of what we have, it won’t be here tomorrow.”
Besides adding more trees to the environment, Industry Images is also reducing their use of paper. Employees use online forms for communication and print multiple pages per sheet of paper.
“Our cleaning company noticed a change right away. We used to produce about eight bags of garbage and now, we only produce three,” said Graham.
It seems being green is good for business. Industry Images now offers their customers recycled paper options when printing.
“Some of our customers share the same environmental values that we do and they purchase recycled stock.”
Industry Images has even created a “virtual” environmental champion named Moe (which stands for Mend Our Environment). Moe is a constant reminder to staff and customers to think about the environment and be green.
