Success Story - At Work

GPR Industries Ltd., Grande Prairie

GPR Industries (1994)Ltd., a Grande Prairie company that services and sells electric motors and generators throughout Alberta and BC, believes in making big investments in “greening” their operations to better the company, community, and environment.

That’s why the company believes that repairing a failed electric motor is just as, or more effective than buying a new one.

“We call it Renewed Reliability,” explains spokesperson Kim Webber. “Repairing an electric motor can be every bit as reliable as a brand new motor but you don’t put the same strain on the environment.”

GPR is promoting the program with clients, from forestry and agriculture to the oil and gas industries. GPR has a transport truck dedicated to this goal. The truck covers northwestern Alberta and northeastern BC, often picking up all sizes of motors that industry would otherwise discard. Once the motors are recovered, they are assessed and “Renewed” if possible. If not, they are broken down for further recycling. GPR Industries (1994) Ltd. is also registered with the Green Motors Practices Group, which commits to practices and policies to actively support customer/client motor driven system efficiency and reliability improvements.

People don’t often realize that electric motors play a huge role in their lives, from running their furnaces at home to help run powerful mills. Motors that are sent to the landfill have a huge impact on the environment.

“GPR Industries is trying to stop as many motors as possible from going to the landfill. It’s why concerned fits GPR’s motto of ‘qualified, equipped and concerned’.” said Webber.

Webber says her company has learned that while going “green” may require a big initial investment, the results are worthwhile, both on a financial and satisfaction level.
